The Summer of Love was still in the air on a cool fall day in November of 1970...
Gladiators from Europe invaded a sleepy little town just outside Sacramento, California at Whiterock park, known today has Hangtown.
It was on this day Americans saw and felt first hand the incredible thrill and skill of the European sport of
Motocross... many American children had their lives forever altered by the exploits of Hall of fame, Husqvarna factory rider, Bengt Aberg.
Bengt, after falling and finding himself in last place proceeded with surgical precision, catch and pass
every single rider including Maico factory rider Åke Jonsson to win.
This then is the story of two boys who's lives would be forever intertwined with
the sport of motocross.
Get outta here... you have Bengt's 1970 Husqvarna 400... I am so jealous.
I have all of the photos... I took them at the race when I was a wide eyed kid watching in utter amazement. Send me your email address and I will send them to you. Do you have any photos of the bike today? I should however be noted, I made a small error in my video. Åke Jonsson did hold on to win that race and Bengt took second. This does not in anyway diminish his riding skills that day... it was amazing.
