I loathed school and flunked many subjects, barely passed others. I am now a huge hobby fan of physics, biology, and chemistry. Where is the bigger story, the infectious enthusiasm for subject matter from teachers? Kids are fed bland information, and assumed too young for the wide view picture of what they're studing. My poor results led teachers to actually calling me a joke. I had my test thrown at me once.

I feel sad for those whose passion for learning didn't survive the education system.

i have to say highschool did not prepare me well enough for college chemistry classes. I have to take 4 chemistry classes in college because I am a biology major, and I (along with many of the students in my class) feel like it is difficult and advanced as hell, which compared to the rest of the world , doubt it really is. In highschool I only had to 1 chemistry class, which was reallly poor basic stuff, compared to college.

We need dynamic positive teachers that encourage reasoning and thinking. When the student starts reasoning about ANYTHING the teacher would start explaining to the student what they are doing and how that can be applied to other situations. Once that is learned they can start focusing on knowledge and since the students understand reasoning they can eventually figure out why things are such. That would give the students self-confidence and promote independent thinking.

The public school system turned me away from schooling. I pretty much slept through all my classes due to boredom. I think it is hilarious when someone says someone is a genius for getting a 4.0 and because my gpa was much lower I'm an idiot. I'm so dumb that I have scored off the charts on every intelligence and aptitude test I have taken.

The public school system is ostracizing the exceptionally gifted students and rewarding the average students. Ridiculous.

@kensei85 Good point, You're spot on........now I've got to get back to Dancing With the Stars and the rest of my TV "programming". Which is why they call it programming. How fast do you think civilization would unravel if the internet and TV collasped? Our kids don't have a clue how to think on their own any more. Private school is looking better and better for my two boys.

the educational system is just a tiny facet, what about the chemical lobotomies and sterilizations? dont expect kaku to warn you that we are regularly bombarded with neurotoxins in everything processed: fluoride, lead, mercury, silver, aluminium, aspartame, msg, gmo maize/soya, etc, and the government relies on immigration to keep the official population numbers and birth rates looking normal

The "stupid" index is being risen purposely. It's easier for a Govt to control uneducated, brainwashed, downtrodden people. The last thing the ruling class want are smart, educated ppl who know their rights and will fight for their slice of the damn pie. Public schools produce people getting trapped in debt at a low paying job they HAVE to keep. They're dumbing you down on purpose. Its all abt control. Whats funny is people r so brainwashed they actually defend the very system enslaving them.

you know i always do my best in school and get good grades, my be its not the school but what kids are distracted by, most of American kids are over privileged and don't realize it and have all this stuff like having video games or phones and we don't appreciated the education that is given for free unlike other countries like India were kids want to learn because most don't have these things, like they only get 2 hours of power a day to conserve on energy. Its not necessarily the schools' fault
