thts where youre wrong. it depends on the pilot. the spit can definatly out turn the p51. the p51 can out run the spit. it depends. i say the spit would win in a real dogfight. its the pilots decisions, not really the plane itself.

I met men who flew both combat aircraft in WWII - the later versions with the Rolls Royce 66 Merlin/Packard 266 engines.
The Spitfire had a much better rate of climb and a better rate of turn than the Mustang. But the Mustang had slightly higher speed and had the range that the Spitfire lacked.
Allied pilots didn't like to compare the two aircraft that much except to say: 'They were complimentary machines". In that they both served with distinction to smash the Nazi out of the sky.

@denmalski Agreed. You can thank British Rolls Royce engineers who realised that the airframe was very good, but the Allison engine was garbage. They re-engineered the airframe to accept the Merlin, and the rest as they say, is history. The British even named the P-51 as the 'Mustang.'

badass!

cool but i rather buy the mustang coz its more cooler than the spitfire

The Spitfire was an interceptor, thus a better rate of climb was a must. Mustangs were escort fighters, with a wing design that allowed them to cruise at high speed for long ranges without guzzling fuel.

And how did u secure it to the plane?

@ghosttroop I mounted the camera at the plane's CG facing backwards. I just used some masking tape to secure it

are you flying the spitfire?. if so how is that plane, i havent seen it around much but i got the slo-v and j-3 cub and their amazing!!!, how is this one

The spitfire is a great plane. It is very durable and easy to fly at low speeds. The mustang is harder to fly at lower speeds and it balances on a knife edge when you are flying slow. The spitfire is the best r/c plane i've ever flown and i recommend it.
