Please go to http://www.indiegogo.com/scooter to make a contribution toward a pet wheelchair for Scooter.

READ BELOW ABOUT SCOOTER'S JOURNEY

Scooter was a 5-week old stray kitten when she was found. Her back legs were paralyzed, and she was brough to a local veterinarian to be euthanized. But, the day that started out as the end for Scooter turned out instead to be a new beginning for her when she found her way to STAR Foundation.

We took Scooter to see Dr. Kolins at the Mineola Animal Hospital. He is on STAR's Board of Directors, and he is the veterinarian for many of STAR's wildlife and exotic animals. He said her paralysis was caused by an injury -- she had probably been dropped or stepped on. Dr. Kolins also prescribed laser treatments and as a result, Scooter regained some of the feeling in her legs! This enabled her to stand, although she is still quite a bit wobbly. Scooter also had a hard time urinating and defacating on her own, and the laser treatments helped her in that respect, too. Scooter was also spayed and vaccinated. Dr. Kolins says acupuncture treatments may help Scooter even more.

Now that Scooter is about a year old, she can be fitted with a pet wheelchair. Scooter desperately needs a pet wheelchair to improve her quality of life. Without it, she drags her back legs on the ground behind her, putting her at risk for further injury.

The wheelchair will also make her a better candidate for adoption into a forever home. Special needs pets can be difficult to place. If Scooter is pre-equipped with her own wheelchair, it will increase her chances for adoption. She really needs and deserves a home with someone who will love and take care of her, and the pet wheelchair will give her a better chance at that. It will help her get her "paw" in the door!

Scooter's determination and fun-loving spirit are captured here in her video. Be sure to watch it! Also in the video, you can see an example of what a cat in a pet wheelchair looks like.
