At 2130 Forks company 25 responded to the Giant Food Store on Sullivan Trail for a CO investigation with victims. Chief 25 (Chapman) arrives and finds high levels of Carbon Monoxide in the store with numerous people feeling sick. The store is being renovated and is open during construction.
Contractors installing tile floor erected a tent inside the store to protect shoppers while they used saws powered by propane. One problem - they didn't vent the fumes inside the tent.
A total of 35 people had to be evaluated. Of those 35, 4 workers inside the tent, which had readings of 400 parts per million, were transported to area hospitals by Advanced Life Support ambulances. Another 7 were transported by Basic Life Support units. The other victims were evaluated at the scene and refused treatment. The building was vented.

Who knew that propane used to remove tile created carbon monoxide. Too bad they didn't have a detector plugged in. Wow, 400ppm! No wonder the employees were sick. Informative post. Thanks!
