National Champion
The campus celebrated last week the success of Alex Kebbell (year 6) in winning
the Australian Sport Climbing Youth C division in both climbing and speed climbing.
Alex has been a keen climber for a number of years but has only taken on a more
serious approach in the last two years, under the watchful eye of one of Australia's
top climbers, James Kassay, down at Bayside Rock.
Alex is in the unfortunate position of being just old enough by one day that he
creeps into this older division hence he competed against a lot of climbers who
were nearly two years older than himself. Having made the final in lead placed
third, he pulled off a strong final climb, finishing one hold clear of the second place.
He then backed this up in the afternoon with a win also in the Speed event. Alex
has another year in this division before he tackles Youth B and possible World
Youth Championship selection.
