Arthas and Illidan were great characters (Characters who felt that their loved ones abandoned them).

Arthas with Jaina, Illidan with Tyrande and Mal Furion

They were good characters, made a good story ,,, i don't like the books much, takes away the epicness of the characters.

Arthas ignored the council of those closest to him (including Jaina) in order slaughter the people in Stratholme. They may have been seen as a threat in his eyes, but Stratholme was the beginning of Arthas' corruption. I could go on, but I suggest you read the lore about Arthas and then maybe you'll see he was already going down an evil path. A path even Jaina couldn't have kept him from.
