Protest Against Texas Surcharge Laws with BS Flag

Wake up Texas politicians and realize that the surcharge law is doing more harm than good. This man will tell you why.

I created this video because I have my own complaints with the law which concerns my oldest son. My oldest son will have $1,500 in surcharge fees to pay after he is released from jail later this year. His drivers license is suspended and he will have to come up with $159 to get his license back. Since he can't earn money in jail, he will have to borrow money from his relatives so he can get his license back to drive to work. This is bullshit!

Bottom line is the DRP is a failure. It violates individuals rights regarding double jeopardy, equal protection, and protection from excessive fines and punishment, as well as others including due process. The DRP was never voted on, and the DRP is funding the TTC without approval from voters or Congress.

The DRP legislation is engineered to generate revenue for the Trans-Texas Corridor. It was established to coincide with the law authorizing the TTC. When proponents of the TTC decided to embark on a personal agenda in hopes of ensuring their legacy, they placed an unnecessary, unprecedented financial burden on Texas. The TTC will not relieve congestion in and around our states metropolitan areas; it will literally cut Texas in half.

There's an amnesty program for those who can't pay the surcharges. You can apply for it on their website. My son owed about $6,500 for surcharges and they wrote off the charges so he owes nothing. I know someone else who qualified for the amnesty program and he only owed $250 after they wrote off a couple thousand.

I got one of these bullshit surchage notices in the mail. The fucked up part was that they were surcharging me for a ticket that was DISMISSED. What the fuck happened to innocent until proven guilty?

I got hit with the no insurance surcharge. I have no problems in taking responsibility for the things that I do wrong, and had no issues in paying the fine. BUT $750 ADDITIONAL?! That's insane! Its purely a money grab and Texans need to get their heads out of their collective behinds and speak out against this law.

Governor Perry created this surcharge law to pay for the super toll road going through Texas. Your $750 will repeat every year x3 so you will be paying at least 3x the amount you start with. Texas needs Initiative and Referendum like California so Perry can recalled, but unfortunately it doesn't. Greedy polititians!!!

This is double jeopardy which the 5th amendment of the Constitution is supposed to protect you against. If someone is convicted all ready and took care of it, sending them a notice of another charge is double jeopardy. You are bringing up convictions that are done and buried.

This is worse than credit card debt! Fuck Texas. And you know whats crazy? every US Citizen must have insurance but any mexican can drive across the bridge, hit your car, have no insurance and never pay a dime to you. THATS BULLSHIT and I hope Perry's wife gives him gonorrhea.

I have 3 of these, 2 for no insurance(which both tickets were in a 3 day period) and 1 not having my drivers license on me. 255 for the insurance ones, 150 for the DL one. I am on the 3rd year of paying them. I have gone to jail 3 times because of these surcharges. I am 23 and cant afford to pay for rent and gas because I have to pay so many fines every month. These surcharges have ruined my life, I have lost 2 jobs because of going to jail for missing one of the payments... My life is hell.

I totally agree. Texas surcharge is the biggest scam. It's almost like a pyramid scam. I've been dealing with these pricks for about 8 years. I cannot tell u how much money they have scammed me out of. It's like a never ending circle. Come on, we all make mistakes in our lives and that's how we learn. But to keep a working man/woman down by this shit is unbelievable. I finally have told them on the phone and thru emails they can have my drivers license and stick them in their ass.

I fully support your opposition to this program. The DRP has been a disastrous finance method; the program currently has a 65% non-payment rate. By many accounts the surcharge program has failed. Compliance with the program has been poor, and enforcement has been difficult, leading to poor revenue. It has done nothing but facilitate and increase the number of unlicensed and uninsured motorists in Texas. It's a debtor's prison! ABOLISH IT!

@flowerchild1951 i agree on fighting for something thats not fair... but when your fighting a computer issued document? good luck, same thing happened to me: got a ticket for no insurance, tower my truck and hauled me off, sat around in jail for 3 days, got out, payed 380$ for my truck back and found my insurance under my seat, ticket dismissed but still pay surcharge. judge said i had to pay it regardless, and i should have had my documents 'in order' douchebag judge yomen
