Brand new, Green Powered, Electro-Motive EMDX GP22 7102, is seen in Ottawa Central's Walkley Yard after being used on a test train of tank cars with Ottawa Central's RS-18's. 7102 is a former CP GP9, rebuilt with a 8 cylinder, 710 cubic inch prime mover. Called Repower, 710ECO, this locomotive makes quite a unique sound from this new powerplant. May 3 2008

  • this same engine #7102 was up here in Alaska sometime ago

  • was it running with the GP49's? Or SD70's?

  • Wierd sounding engine there, i just saw that unit yesterday down here in East Texas, 5/24/09, trailing 2 UP GEVO's and another rare unit i couldnt identify, but there was also a hobo on that train too, wish i had my video camera with me

  • Sounds like my new refrigerator...but much louder.

The unit has been racking up some mileage going from place to place.

  • do you have anything with it notched up a bit?

would be nice to hear it sing its happy song.

  • no i don't sorry. The engine was parked after running a test train up the valley and back that day.

  • I saw this exact engine once moving thru Princeton, Indiana. What a sight.

  • yeah, this engine just sounds sick. the eco does the 710 no justice what so ever.

  • I sat in this unit when it was at the CAD shops being rebuilt. Awesome video man!

  • looks like a chop-nose GP9

  • This unit is a piece of junk. I was in it last night. It shakes horrible. That little 710 V-8 shakes really bad. The more cylinders the smoother they run. At notch 8 I thought the carbody was going to shake apart!!!

  • Its a v8 to start with--basically a small block. Most of the size is height, longer stroke--talking only about 4 inches at most. 645 and 710s are very close in width.

  • How do you fit a 710 inside that little body?
