Legendary jazz/big band drummer Gene Krupa was doing this trick in the 1940s. Dino Danelli,Carmine Appice ,Tommy Aldridge,Bobby "T" Torello ALL did the stick twirling,tossing high in the air and catching it waay before Lee. And all are far superior as drummers who possess actual technique,ability.

I agree completely, but as for pure showmanship and stage presence, very few drummers surpass Tommy Lee.

Tommy Lee good drummer? Thats the funniest shit I've heard all day. Dave Weckl, Vinnie C, Akira Jimbo, Steve Gadd, Matt Sorum! Now those are good drummers. You dont see or hear Tommy Lee playing stuff like that.

Agreed, on a completely technical level. But as for showmanship, Tommy's a major step above the aformentioned musicians. If you want to sell music you have to 'dumb' it down for the average person. For example: you can do all sorts of crazy rudiments in amazing time signatures, but the average joe with little musical knowledge won;t like it as much as a simple, heavy beat and throwing your sticks around...

I've been drumming for almost 20 years, and trust me....Tommy Lee is a fucking excellent drummer. subtelty, class, power and groove...it's all there.

Im sick of people dissing Tommy Lee because he isnt as technical as a lot of drummers. The dude beats the shit out of his kit like no tomorrow and he is a far better entertainer than most. Its called being a rockstar, not some technical snob.

@GalaxyRover1020 i think noone said that tommy was the pioneer of the twirling or the tossing stick tricks everyone can do those tricks with a little exercise. am i wrong? i guess not. so the point is "if tommy is a great drummer?" in my opinion he is.he may not be the best out there but he sure is the best for motley. the crue was always about the show at the concerts they may cross the lines sometimes but fuck it man..its the Crue. it was meant to be that way for day 1.so stop arguing. CRUE!!
