Tarantula 2008

A random tarantula I came across on a hike. I'm not sure how to explain my habit of writing songs for these little spiders, but I guess it's just something I do!

It seems most years during October I encounter at least one tarantula while out hiking. In fact, I have videos that were shot in October of 2005 and 2006 that feature tarantulas already posted here on YouTube. The specimen shown in this video was photographed on October 15, 2008 at the mouth of Bruce Canyon in Searles Valley.

The one I saw a couple days ago was bigger. It surprised me to see one in January. It's gotten below freezing several times during the past couple weeks and that one was at above 3000 feet, which would be even colder! (That's the tarantula that was in my "Intro Songs" video.)
