I think thats a bit harsh. We are all different. I have a friend of 20 years and he has only just told me he is gay. I wa supset at first BUT you have to take people at their individual pace.

I know it was a different time etc. but he never seems to have faced it his whole life - it's embarrassing that he really thought people were fooled by his claim to be living with a straight man and was a straight man himself!

Plenty of gay men much older than him dealt with it with much more honesty and openness

er, homosexuality was ILLEGAL for most of his life and hence he was bound to have hang ups about it and be restrained about what to reveal. It was a very different era

Dirk Bogarde,with his persona,acting,and writing, was an enigma.I doubt we'll see the like again.

And talk about defensive!! - all Harty was asking is what do you talk about at night and he wasnt able to complete the sentence before Bogarde started to rattle off some unconvincing cover-up!
