WLIW New York's Visions series journeys to the heart of the Alps to capture the idyllic essence of Central Europe's crown jewel. Stunning high definition footage shot in winter and spring captures the highlights and a soundtrack befitting the region home to the waltz and an extraordinary number of classical composers including Mozart, Schubert, and Mahler showcases a glorious musical tradition. You can almost smell the waft of strudel as the helicopter-mounted camera swoops through spacious squares, and down to the picturesque streets to join waltzing couples. Magical, postcard-perfect moments include the imperial magnificence of Vienna, tourist destinations for sun and ski at Bregenz and Lech, Linz, Innsbruck and, winding thorugh it all west to east, the Danube River. I recently saw a portion of this show on the local PBS station. It was broadcast in 1080i and was gorgeous. I went to buy the DVD (it was a fundraiser after all) but found that the DVD wasn't high definition like the broadcast, which is too bad because the HD material is beautiful. If you like this, contact WLIW and ask for an HD release.
