Spend a little time searching (Filestube) for this software and you'll get it for free for mac & pc. I just got modo 501 incl keygen core for mac osx. a bit late but better late than ever.

There should be a pen tool that does something like this:
you make a outline like the lasso tool in Photoshop, and a drop menu comes down. then it should have options that say make poly or what ever. but then you would need to fine tune the points but it would get close.
Is that what your talking about. that sound like fun to make, a pen tool. I wonder how much the company will pay me to make it ^_^

modo has a pen tool just like you say.

This may differ from what i am used to in 3ds max, but isn't the smoothing thing you are applying (tab key in modo) basically meshsmooth? (bump up the smoothness of the model, increase the poly count)
If it is the same (i'm not even sure it is, just wondering) i wouldn't call this low poly modelling, seeing as the low poly model you create is being smoothed, making it high poly lol
Sorry if i'm wrong, as i've said before, im a total noob when it comes to modo, but have alot of max experience.

its not really smoothing its going into sub-d. It dont increase poly count really at all. It just converts to sub-d. Smoothing is something different in Modo.

i call it low poly modeling because if i wanted to do a "real" character to be human liek it would be HUGE amount of polys. This has no detail, no legs above the knee, no face. So its low poly. Video games render on the fly so the lower the poly the better.
