Take your car for the second day and see the Romanesque church at Corme-Royal. See Brouage and its connections with Richelieu and Samuel Champlain, founder of Quebec. Go across the 3 km bridge to Ile d'Oleron.
Continue your second day in the car and, yes, more Romanesque churches - St Trojan at Rétoud, Rioux, Tesson, Villars-en-Pons and Pons, Then return to Saintes and reluctantly give up your Peugeot 107.
Peter, I wish you had gone the other way in Pons. You would have seen the Romanesque church of St. Vivienne and the 12th century pilgrim's hospital.
Happy trails, my friend. Thank you for sharing your journeys.
