Well, I wish that I had the motivation to take HF on these trips as I used to years ago.
HF activity has dropped off to such a small amount of stations these days that it is not worth the bother
to carry the extra weight of an HF rig and batteries. Evening CW activity is zero on 80m and 40m outside of contests. 20m SSB could be fun for day time activity, yet that is usually when caves are being dug or igloos being built. I would want evening HF activity for a trip like this.

Nikon point and shoot I used did not have such a feature.

I'm pretty sure you would get better nights if yoou bought real winter tent. It keeps you dry and just a little hotter than outside.

Olsfsen. Terry and I have spent many nights with other fiends in 4 season mountaineering tents and igloos and snow caves.
There is no question that it is warmer in an igloo or cave compared to a tent. Especailly at temps below 0c. No tent can compare to the wind break feature of a cave/igloo. Period. I have weathered serious white outs in snow caves where the only way to tell it was stormy was to look out the door and watch trees in the distance bouncing back and forth.
