Slides taken during a trip to Munich in 1972. Produced into a synchronized slide show in 1976.
With one exception, the music selections are difficult to trace, due to a fiancee purge of media many years ago.
The classical serenade was written by J.J. Mondonville. "Gute Nacht Freunde" by Inga und Wolf was popular in 1972. Muss I' Den and In Munchen Stat Ein Hofbrau Haus are folksongs.
Muss I' Denn is the last selection played by the famous glockenspiel of Munich's new Town Hall, full of the sense of parting and hopeful reunion.
This travelogue starts with the Oktoberfest parade, and then with wandering among the beer halls. We then seek respite in the gardens of Nymphenburg, the former royal residence. Then we enjoy the sights and sounds of Munich's streets, and stop for a visit to the Olympic park, where the tragedy of that year was still very much in focus. Now a desolate place, it provides an opportunity for reflection in a warm October sunset. At some point, parting must come, and Muss I' Denn chimes from the town hall glockenspiel, in the hope that parting will not be long. At this writing I have yet to return.
