  • I lov ethe Hawaiian Language & have been studying it. same thing with some chinese people I know they run a small take out & i Noticed the kids dont speak Mandarin?! I asked kevin do they know any? he said no ,they just dont teach them

    its the parents fault

  • I feel really strongly about this because I'm of multiple races and one of them is Hawaiian and my grandpa tried teaching me the language but only when I was older and my dad knows only a few phrases. I really envy the kids who get to learn since preschool and I hope someday I can do the same for my kids. I agree how lame it is to have languages just fade away.

  • nanea keia ki'i'oni'oni.

  • This is exactly what happened in Ireland. The British Government banned the Irish language and forced people to learn English. Luckily there are still tens of thousands that still speak Irish it natively, and it is mandatory to learn Irish in all schools now.

As we say in Irish "Tír gan teanga, tír gan ainm" - A country without a language is a country without soul.

    Long live ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi

  • Thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this. Native languages should never be lost. English as well as conecting cultures has been a horrible plague whiping out amazing cultures, who are now having to fight tooth and claw to stay alive. My heratige is scottish. I am learning Gaelic so that I can speak and teach it to my children. Thank you so much for the video, more people must see this, heratige and culture is very important. Never let it die.

  • very interesting. i'm not hawaiian but i'm interested. i'm adopted filipino and can't speak my language but i try to learn it and learn things about my cultural heritage. i really enjoyed this video thanks for posting!
