nice one!

To add to that last comment, researchers don't always come up with the most creative and feasible applications, so don't go hard on the technology because of lousy implementation.

People don't realize that this is an INTERFACE. It's simply a means of interacting with a device. You want applications? Here:
- Gaming
- Spatial navigation (think Googlemaps or Street View)
- Interaction with 3D menu interface (adds z-component to touchscreen's x/y)
- 3D sketching and modeling (with multiple fingers)
- Remote gesturing (think media control just by gesturing at your phone from far away)

@demonlordgalm1 phoneless- phones

the touch phones wasnt enogh and now they invented touchless phones , only god knows what will be invented after this...
-
also true for touchscreen phones

Interesting. However, I dont see this as being very ergonomic... The mouse, albeit not entirely ergonomic on its own right, is still the best input device we have to date in the desktop environment. For something as small as this, touch would work better than motion tracking.

Good for people with a germ phobia. Also no fingerprints/scratches on the screen, yay!

but what happens if there's not enough light in the room youre in? a really good idea, no question about that, but (like all other first ideas) it still needs improvement :)
