From the BBC docu-drama, "Krakatoa: The Last Days." The movie is also known as "Krakatoa: Volcano of Destruction" and aired on Discovery Channel. The movie brings to life the journals and recollections of four witnesses who survived the cataclysmic eruption of Krakatoa in August of 1883.

Jacob Schuit with his family was keeper of the Fourth Point lighthouse near Anjer in Java, east of Krakatoa. When morning of August 27, 1883 dawned, the thick smoke and ash fall from Krakatoa was so dense that the day remained enveloped in darkness and visibility was very poor. Stalwart Jacob felt that he must remain upstairs to keep the operations going in case ships were in the area.

Meanwhile, several mega-tsunami were radiating out of the collapse of Krakatoa and one was heading east toward Anjer.

A telegram from a Lloyd's of London agent describes the disaster:

"Anjer and lighthouse and the other lights of southwest Java have all been destroyed. The subsidences and upheavals we have alluded to caused a large wave about 100 feet in height to sweep down on the southwest coast of Java and south of Sumatra. This was swept in for a great distance, thereby doing great injury both to life and property.... Anjer seems to have been completely destroyed. Lloyd's sub-agent there wires from Serang: 'All gone. Plenty lives lost.'"

  • Yeah, I was hoping no one was going to go. If you see the full movie, it's even sadder because the movie shows them as a good and kind family.

  • It's not fake.Like I said before, people have died from this eruption.

  • It's a bit obvious that it's a re-enactment.

  • This lady needs some strong Happy Meds!

  • it wasnt her fault man... dont judge people you were lucky you were not the kid... >_<

  • Dumb bitch all her fault the son died

  • Indonesia amazing...

  • I think the worst thing being, the lighthouse would have survived the wave itself, the only reason it was destroyed was a massive chunk of coral that was being dragged along with the wave hit the lighthouse... bad luck more than anything.

  • no shit this eruption took place from august 24-27, 1883

  • @RoxMen02 Right. But saying "Fake" is just plain disrespectful to the people who HAD died.

  • @Freak2121GTAF But you can't possibly revived the people who have been through this and go through this whole again, right?

  • @giulene: Indeed, but they weren't used to photograph this. This is done on mid-20th century sets and using that period's special effects: stop motion, miniatures, rear screen, cuts and stunt people and so on.

  • @puncheex it occurred on august 27th 1883, at that time movie cameras didnt still exist the came out 10 years after. instead photograf cameras existed.
