I just fully cleaned a wheel based on hearing that the tire bed needs to be clean each time i mount a fresh tire....Now I'm wondering if that isnt the case, Could I get away with using the old glue still on rim and gluing the new tire, and only cleaning the rim pefect every 2nd or 3rd tire change? Anyone got any input on that??

So all he did was one heavy coat of glue on the rim?

Most manufactures recommend using Acetone or Benzene. I'm sure that's what he was using to clean the sidewall / braking surface.

about the cleaning solution, not sure what he said at first, but when he said it louder it was benzin, which in croatian (im croatian) means gasoline. when i plugged it in to google translate and asked it to detect the language, it said it was a danish word also meaning gasoline.
The rim and more than likely the tyre would already have a 'preprepared' layer of glue on them. they do this well in advance of the race in their work shop when they get the shipment of rims and tyres. when they pull an old or puctured tyre off usually the glue layer stays on the rim and the new glue sticks the glue on the rim to the glue on the new tyre.

@killar770 It does bring up a point about this rim. He peeled off the old tire and scraped off what he could of the old glue. He lightly used a knife and a wire brush to do so.
He then applied the glue and the new tire.

That's it. They do a lot of tires in a matter of minutes. One heavy coat keeps it efficient.

Good thing he's a fast mechanic, because my hand would have really hurt, if he took too long.

@301steady The cleaning product is Wasbenzene. Alcohol eats into rubber.
Memory card went full here; and, the whole job was finished shortly after; but, the process was pretty much covered.
