Bells and whistles are expensive! Simple rainwater harvesting systems for landscape irrigation can be constructed from recycled barrels or economical poly tanks. Gravity is the only pump needed and the collection downspouts are also the distribution system. The tank can be almost anywhere on the property. For you rocket scientists, a few examples of drinking water systems will also be shown.
Dick Peterson's interest in water conservation and rainwater harvesting goes back over 20 years. As the City of Austin Xeriscape Program Coordinator, he developed their rebate program for rainbarrels and cisterns. Now with Austin Energy Green Building, he regularly consults with customers about home construction, landscaping, irrigation, and rainwater harvesting.
