You can make a simple fruit fly trap by making a paper cone with an opening in the bottom and placing it in a jar with a small amount of kombucha in the bottom! Hope this helps~ Rory :0)
I have had a heck of a time keeping the friut flies away from my batch. Ikeep my tea in it's own cabinet away from the kitchen. I place a clean dish towel on top with rubberbands to keep the flys out. I hung some of those sticcky fly traps up in the cabinet. This seems to have done the trick. Be warned if you live in a region with fruit flies! They will find your Kamboucha! Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
I would have to disagree about boiling sugar. It could carmalize.I just brew the tea and add the sugar while it cools down.As long as it dissolves
