  • I would not recooment the victim to be sitting upright as the center of gravity is not on the deck itself, so, the rescuer would need to use more strength on this video.

If the victim hugs the hull and head is on the fore deck, it will be easier :)

  • Good point. If the victim is conscious and cooperative, the rescuer can coach the victim to lean back or lean forward, which -- as you say -- lowers their center of gravity and makes the rescue much easier. In the videotaped rescue above, the intent was to show how this technique can be used even with an unconscious paddler.

  • A bear in a qyak!

  • excellent, my girlfriend just saved somebody's life doing this exact maneuver! Cheers, B

  • very satisfying my father is a kayak instructor and i have seen coutless videos where people grab the victims arm and dislocate there shoulder very good video no sound though

    =(

  • thats a good point, not many instructions teach what to do if the rescuee is injured, unconcious or etc

  • Too much like work.

If the casualty is heavy I have found it's better to grab the top of the PFD, put them as far back on the rear deck as you can and roll them up with a little less effort.

I of course am motivated by laziness.
