Tamarillo Fruit

These are tamarillos. They are called tree tomatoes here in NZ. They need to be ripe when eaten, and even then, it is an aquired taste.

@mauriciotornea tamarillo is a fruit native of Ecuador and it is called tree tomato or tomate de arbol, and in Ecuador it is one of the most popular fruit. We eat it in juice, salsas, salads, ice cream, desserts, etc. It is delicious and very rich in vitamines and minerals.

I can not believe they are $2 each at the supermarkets. Luckily i have a friend who grows them in their backyard. I can eat 10 in one sitting.

eh? we call them tamarillos here in New Zealand, I have never heard them called tree tomatoes before. The "tama" part of the name is Maori for leadership and thats where it got its name from.

in Hongkong you can buy them too. I just ate one!
