For freedom to work, there must be separation of religious establishments and public policy. Maldivians just happened to be Muslims. And just being so, is not a reason why one should protect it and defend it from other non rational influences. Its easy for a politician to use religion as a tool. Freedom also means to change one's fundamental beliefs. Free people must be able to address all irrationality including the ones, you happen to be born into.
