uconn marching band - my favorite things

Here is the half time show from the UConn vs Virginia game 2008. A lot of credit goes to Jim one of the trumpet players who got through his solo with a busted lip after being hit in the face by accident....so clutch....

@jazztrump9 Ah ,thank you for clearing that :) I will try one of the pieces were doing this year for our half time show is "Who Are You" and the lowest note( For us firsts) is tuning note C, and our highest is the octave above.. it's kind of annoying...it just repeats it's self OVER again.. :/ and then our other pieces are Tommy( by Pinball Wizard), Reeling in the Years( by Steely Dan), and our last piece is Lock you Up(arr by jeff simmons). It's going to be comp. diff. than last year

I believe anyone can learn to play higher, it is just a matter of learning how to do it. Since everyone has a different embouchure set up, you need to find your own way of doing it. I figured it out my junior year of high school and kept working on it through college, and now into grad school. @Trace3690 @Trace3690 @Trace3690 double A is the space above the 4th ledger line. I have heard this many times from high school students. Range development isn't as big a mystery as you would think. In high school I had the same ceiling for some time until I learned how to play higher. Some people are lucky enough where their embouchure set up allows them to have ease in the upper register without little work. Others dont have it so easy.

@jazztrump9 it was a double A?? what bar is that one again? im a soon to be junior and i can hit the C that is above the normal bar lines, and sometimes the D above it...i can't go any higher yet.. and dang, that must have SUCKED recieving that kind of mail and not being able to do it! stupid age requirements! lol

@Trace3690 Thank you very much. The range actually wasn't written as high as some of the stuff we played. The highest note was the double A, however the G and Double C at the end were both done by me and my room mate because we had the chops for it. You can hear that more clearly in the video of my favorite things at the MAC championships. We received emails from dci recruiters after that show... sadly I was already past 21 years old.

@jazztrump9 It was very well done :) As a trumpet player myself, that was very very well done. Great job to the soloists, and especially the one described in you the description with a busted lip. I will pass on the song to my band teacher next year(since we already have our music for this year) and I hope we can play it. Great job to every member of this band :) I hope we can do at least a good job on this song, since I heard a lot of high register notes. Thank you :)

@Trace3690 The song is called my favorite things. It was originally from the musical the sound of music. Marvin McNeil arranged it for the UCMB in 2008. It was probably my favorite show of my 5 years in the marching band before graduating in 2010 and the most memorable being one of the trumpet soloists.
