Seconds From Disaster - S03E10 - Munich Olympic Massacre

The Munich massacre is an informal name for events that occurred during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Bavaria in Southern Germany, when members of the Israeli Olympic team were taken hostage and eventually murdered by the terrorist group Black September. Members of Black September contended that Yasser Arafat's Fatah organization secretly endorsed the operation. Fatah, however, disputed the accusation. Black September called the operation "Ikrit and Biram", after two Christian Palestinian villages whose inhabitants were killed or expelled by the Hagannah in 1948.

By the end of the ordeal, the terrorists had killed 11 Israeli athletes and coaches and 1 West German police officer. Five of the eight members of Black September were killed by police officers during a failed rescue attempt. The three surviving terrorists were captured, but later released by West Germany following the hijacking by Black September of a Lufthansa airliner. Israel responded to the massacre with Operation Spring of Youth and Operation Wrath of God, as well as a series of airstrikes and killings of those suspected of planning the kidnappings.

The Isreali Team alone made the Olympics a prime target for a terror attack. Yes they had never trained for this kind of attack, however they should've prepared given Black September's reputation and the war. what I want to know is where were the guards? why weren't the Jounalists cleared from the scene? and why was the army never called in, yes there was a law, but this was something that clearly called for the army to be called in

@topperheartramada your 80% right. it all boils down to the fact that the arabs saw the israelies as a threat, idiotic single minded radicals on both sides, and ignorence. they are both at fault for not preventing through communication and understanding

its not all the arab's fault - more accurately, the fundamentalists in islam who are condemed by the majority of islamic leaders. its the radicals. the general population of israel want's to coexist, but because of israel's parliment, the major parties cannot achieve the majority needed to push for peace, and as a result, coalitons are forms with radical factions taking advantage. this, in addition to the religious conflict over ownership of the land, and you have conflict.
