This year's MacTaggart lecture was delivered by Elisabeth Murdoch, Chairman of Shine Group. The first woman to give a MacTaggart lecture in 17 years and the first representative from the production community since 1998.

I had a headache during the entire lecture. If you've ever been to the festival, the best parts are not things like the McTaggart. Looking back at other ones, they're just a bunch of big TV executives moaning about "TV's not doing this" or "TV's dying and we should do this" etc etc. One day I would love someone to just do it improvised and do comedy routines or shit like that.

Thanks for enlightening us KingMac - but making American versions of good British content doesn't come close to fulfilling the needs expressed in the high flown rhetoric on display here. I love good British TV and just wish there were more of it - with the funding provided for Shine it's one of a very few places financially able to provide truly shining, smart, original and compelling material. All this talk just reeks of hypocrisy - am amazed by the fawning media coverage.

So much talk about the need for great creative content which is admirable but please Ms Murdoch let us know what Shine has contributed to the pantheon of TV legend. Just seen your strangely clunky website with mind numbingly forgettable dross - just how does The Most Annoying Pop Songs We Love To Hate and other such pap in any way inspire and excite the passion for TV you start off by espousing so well? You've bought other indies like Kudos who made the wonderful Spooks but what has Shine made?
