Just laying it down on one of our most common questions about the software we use.
But here's the list:
Editing: Final Cut Pro 7
Effects/Compositing: Adobe After Effects CS4
Color Correction: Apple Color
Music: Apple Logic Pro
Sound: Pro Tools 8 with an Mbox 2
3D Elements (Jedi Mailboxes, e.g.) - 3DS Max
Long story short - don't look at me for what I use - use whatever you can get your hands on!

I use windows live movie maker (not much now) now i use sony vegas pro 11.0

TIPS FOR IMOVIE- Same gunshot and muzzle flare.
TIPS FOR FINALCUT- Same as Imove almost. Just better audio. As long as you could put the gunshot in there and it doesn't sound like a airsoft gun your good
