Rock Hudson vs. Mickey Simpson
In this pivotal scene from George Stevens' sweeping, Texas-sized epic about the Lonestar state, Bick Bennedict (Rock Hudson) finally becomes "giant" by renouncing his racist beliefs and standing up to the bigoted diner owner, Sarge (Mickey Simpson, formerly New York City's boxing champion).
The scene is greatly enhanced by Mitch Miller's "The Yellow Rose of Texas", which heightens the drama and adds poignant commentary.
It's one of filmdom's greatest clashes.
