  • For that opening riff/motif, I would put it down 2 octaves. Then come in with the same tune later on but higher up. That adds progression.

    Don't forget that one of the criteria is 'eploitation of the medium.'

    Use the piano's full range!

    I would also perhaps suggest adding percussion (around 1:45?) to spice up the piece. It's very easy to do as well. :)

  • @DaBigCheeseLuigi The final draft had progression in the motif in that it eventually became inverted as well as starting a single octave down, and the bass notes varied in octave both upwards and downwards. A brief version did have percussion, but it didn't add enough to make it worth keeping in.
