  • Soul food is a destruction.

Too much of these foods are high in salt and high in sugar.

African people have the high amount of sugar level and it isn't an insult, but that's a fact.

We must eat foods that are healthy and a balance diet.

  • in the hell does being gay have to do with soul food?!?!?!

  • Hey who wants some curried shrimp, coconut white rice and fried plantains, yummy

  • @peasah2005 Amen to that one. I am African American and I am trying to hard to break the chain!!!!

  • @MondoBeno OMG...im from ireland...hello maties

  • Soul food didn't originate in Africa; it originated in Scotland. The "biscuits" were originally soda bread and griddle cake, baked beans are also common in Scotland, along with fried foods, doughnuts, spare ribs, grits, and just about everything else you eat in the south.

Except Cajun cooking. That's French and Spanish.

  • shut up with the negative comments obesity is a problem in all races and its all in proportions its also cultural everybody eats differently i love all food particularly soul food and west indian food each have such a rich history behind these foods y criticize just enjoy remember all things are good in moderation and quit spewing out statistics that probably arent even accurate shut up and eat as my grandma would say !!

  • OK,I'll take that,I mean if we want,to live long, and avoid certain diseases, like high blood pressure,Type 2 Diabetes.and Heart disease,we must take it upon ourselves,to try and eat healthy.

    I only,eat that during the holidays,and I watch what I eat,just like Tommorow,I will control on how much,I consume...bcause I don't want to gain any weight,already been down that road,of being over weight/obesed.

I am not being insulting, but African people tend to eat things which are high in fat that means too much salt and sugar.

These fried foods that we eat are destroying us and we have to eat natural foods including more fruits and vegetables.

Also, we got to be careful, because these so-called sweetners are still sugary.

  • Yes,it's fatty and high in sodium/sugar,but normally I don't eat that on a daily, except during the holiday season.

Also, soul food don't have to be bad, there's other ways of preparing the food, especially if they're diabetic, also blacks aren't the only ones who have diabetes.

Like for example,if a person normally uses pork in the food, would instead use turkey,or beef...and I happen to find turkey, and beef products, better than pork.

Sweets, don't let me go there...ever heard of splenda?
