PSP 3000 UMD VS Memory Stick test on Platypus.

The drive noise sounds really loud as I have the camera fairly close to the unit. Normally, I have headphones or the volume up. But yeah, a fairly clear demonstration that -unless you are running Custom Firmware that is overclocking the unit- the difference in load times can be virtually nil between UMD and Memory Stick. If Sony really wanted to improve drive speed, they would put a 2X or 4X UMD drive on the unit. The current UMD drive speed has never been updated on the PSP and that's really the problem. Sony never developed or worked on improving the UMD drive. I like the portability of digital download though. For those wondering, Platypus was $9.99 on PSN and I paid considerably less for it at retail. Do check it out though. It's a claymation R-Type wannabe where you shoot objects and collect fruit. It is a fun distraction, even though other games on PSN completely decimate it.

well memory stick will always win, better speed and less energy used. If you have a extreme 3 memory stick it will make a big difference.

hmm...i think that the problem of upgrading UMD drive resides on the fact that we have to take in mind that psp's are portable entertainment systems and uses UMD (universal media DISC) that can get scratched (as reading speed gets higher...its more probable that the disc gets scratched
