My comment was meant to inform others who may have read your comment. Also, you never bothered to claim you were a lighting guy. As a media professional, I sincerely hope I never end up working with you, whoever you are.

Nice.

No. You would have to desalinize the water, or some similar process by using reverse osmosis.

@billygarner587 : I would also like to know what size Fresnel lens I should buy and where can I get one? This looks incredible.

If I put clear plastic on top, tilted a bit, could it made fresh water out of sea water?

Another source of Fresnel lenses is old overhead projectors (just below the glass plate). They are also used in lighthouses. We used to use small magnifying-glasses to torture other kids when I was at school, I don't think its allowed nowadays!

@Tuba408Bass You should carry both. Along with a fire steel. In my fire kit I have, 2 bic lighters, a torch lighter, storm matches, a fire steel, and a small fresnel lens.

Not a chance:-0 I picked up a shiny stainless steel bowl that was exposed for 20 seconds and got a 2 inch long x 1/8" wide blister. Looked like someone drew a line on my index finger. I thought it would not be hot as the far rim was all that was exposed and being reflective. ouch
