Alveolitis means an inflammation of the bone socket, e.g., after a tooth extraction. It refers to a severe periostitis, thus a bone inflammation. These complications especially occur with smokers after tooth extractions, mostly in the lower jaw. It´s distinctive that the pain occurs after 2 to 4 days after the tooth extraction, mostly on the third day.
