In a return to Channel 4, Richard Wilson is examining the rise and rise of automated services across Britain, with machines now able to do everything from customer service enquiries to supermarket till check-outs and airline check-ins.

Is the consumer benefiting from automation, and what is the impact on jobs and the workplace?

In the video above, Richard is in Islington, North London attempting to use a pay-by-phone parking system. Hailed as a fast and convenient way to pay -- Richard found it neither. It took him 12 minutes to pay 25p for 5 minutes of parking. The call cost £3.

This system looks horrific: it's coming to Barnet. Our greedy local council has voted it in without consultation. Making it more difficult and expensive to park will inconvenience local people and shops.
