After 16 years of laying low, raising children, taking care of other business...The wonderfully harmonious McGuire Sisters were ready to hit the comeback trail in 1984, and so they did with a new singing career that lasted longer than the original one! In this October 30, 1984 interview the girls tell their story to Gene Shallot, present archival footage from their first career, and sing a little bit of "Yesterday" and "It's Today" a capella. Looking like a million bucks, the McGuires' second career lasted into the next century...and these ladies still look and sound like a million bucks, but have, once again, put away their wonderful arrangements in favor of separate lives at home.

@ChopGaMan You're right...and don't forget the Boswell Sisters, from the early 1930's who were the inspiration for the Andrew Sisters...another important group was the Trio Lescano, from Italy...lots of the songs that the Andrew Sisters sang had been composed before by the Trio Lescano!
Isn't that a pleasure to remember these fabulous times and sounds?

Pop Divas for sure! I think the only girl group that carried on the class like The Mc Guire Sisters, was The Supremes, Diana,Mary & the rest of them.
Thanks for this video!!

So did they have a big comeback? When did they stop again? Phyllis sure doesnt let anybody else talk!!
spintation 1 year ago
@spintation The comeback was a great success with lots of TV appearances, club and theater dates. Their last appearance was on a PBS tribute to the 1950's music about three years ago, that is constantly rebroadcast during PBS pledge drives. The strange and sad thing is that although their 'comeback' years lasted longer than the original career, they never made a recording as a trio, although several projects were announced but never materialized. Phyllis did cut a duet with Barry Manilow.
