Actually Spitzer rounds can't be fired in lever guns because the bullet tip could set off the primer of the round ahead of it in the tube magazine, either by recoil or dropping or knocking the gun around hard. In other words DO NOT reload .30-30 rounds with Spitzer bullets for .308 or .30-06, you could turn your gun into a BOMB if you use them. But Hornady has sort of solved that with their flextip LEVERevolution line of ammo.

Pointy tips and tube magazines don't do well together. Winchester's M1895 and the Savage 99 got around that with box magazines though.

(And the French Lebel was a bolt action rifle with a tubular magazine!)

@DEP717 I've got a Winchester Model 600 Cooey(Canadian Made), 12 shot, Bolt Action, Tube Mag(Though it is just a .22!). There's a few odd guns around. I've seen pics of a Bolt Action Double Rifle!

@Cephas Hornady now has boat-tailed spitzers with soft flexible tips designed for tubular magazine lever action rifles, and has also brought out a line of ammunition call "Leverevolution" . The 160 gr 30-30 Leverevoluton ammo will shoot flat enough for deer hunting to 300 yards and is MOA accurate out of our family Marlin 336.

I have hand loaded 30-30's with the 150 gr Hornady SST boat-tailed spitzer for incredible performance. But, it is a "one in the mag" one in the chamber" round ONLY!

@DanJ30 There are such things as lever rifles designed to fire spitzers. They have box magazines (like the Browning BLR).

Also you can fire spitzers even out of a tube mag rifle; but you'll be firing it like a single shot rifle.
