  • is it possible to use a straight key with this rig?

  • @VA2ASF Yes, you can use a straight key our an electronic. The radio has a very versatile menu with lots of options.

  • Ron,

Nice video.I am new to Ham radio. Licensed thru general this Spring. I am only interested in cw too. I was licensed some 23 years ago as a novice, but never used it due to moving, etc. Could you tell me, please, what is a good soldering iron to use for these types of projects? I have a Radio Shack cheapy, but the tips don't seem to last too long. Also, is this rig hard to align?

  • @timeanagain

I suggest you get a soldering station and not an iron. A station gives you a lot more control over how much heat you use. The K1, like all Elecraft rigs, is simple to align. It's all explained in the manual. K1 is easy to build and a super fun CW rig...

    Good Luck with yours... Ron

  • Thanks for the review. I have been looking for a qrp rig a first build kit. A lot of good rigs out there, but this vid has helped me make a decision. One question i have is there are options for the radio. Can these be added later on after the build? Thanks again. KE4OPI.

  • Yes, ALL options can be added at anytime. Good luck with your K1 and have fun...

  • I purchased a K1, four bander because I was impressed with this video. The K1 is all Ron says it is and more. It's loaded with features that makes it a good CW rig, and it's very portable! That's the part I like. Thanks for this video, Ron. It helped me decide between a K1 and KX1 from Elecraft.

  • Thanks for putting this on YouTube, inspiring....... 73 de MW0MJB

  • @eogg25 my second comment being an old ham, if you dont use it often you might forget how to use it like me, i.m sitting here reading the manual again, good luck

  • Where can I get that radio and the tuner?? 73
