ALH Teardown 99.5 - 04 VW TDI

If I was changing the timing belt i would have down some thing a little differently. One would be not to forget the mm hex down in Rodney. It was impossible to set the engine at tdc with the crank being seized with that broken connecting rod. We still managed to set crank and lock injection pump in tdc position. It was a great learning experience.

I'd love to see the bottum of that head as I think that piston has smashed into it. where the valves ok or not? Do you know how to check for bent valves? It wuill save yourself alot of pain to check them now before you put that head back on bro.

To save money/ time don't dissemble the intake or exhaust manifold I thought I was watching a mechanic

use the gas torch on that intake, makes cleaning the black crap out so much easier.. you could spend hours trying to get it clean it with degreaser.. just wrap it in damp rags to keep it cool.. worked wonders on my ARL :)
