When america had people like Murrow as their public figures I think, had I been alive at the time, I too could have boought into the fact of America being a genuinely forth right and democratic country with an open public forum to expose injustices that would undermine these virtues and as a country whose citizenry had an inherant sense of right. Unfortunately the US actions around the world during the last 50 years have changed all that and there are no more Murrows left.

No one doubts Murrow was an excellent journalist, but just because people have been swept up in the scandals of modern tabloid newspapers doesn't mean that all we are left with is " fluff and junk".

It seems the Republican Party has a long history of accusing Democrats of treason. Today it's covered with "Independent" O'Reilly, and "Libertarian" Glenn Beck, but the intent is still the same.
