As is now the norm in Greece, peaceful protest are now broken up by Police brutality.
The weapon of choice for the Greek police is tear gas and it is a weapon they like.
It is a shame that people's personalities can be transformed by a uniform. I wonder if the police would act this way in civilian clothing.
Imaging the police are wearing civilian clothing when you watch this video, would you think it is normal behaviour in a civilised society.
The police need to realise that they are animating the power of the state and that without the uniform they are just like eveyrone else.
The riot police pushing the Red Cross with his riot shield as they are treating an injured protester/stander by is a case in point.
Like I said, sadly this scenes are now the norm in Greece and this kind of activity is deliveratly designed to deter people from wanting to voice their objections in a supposedly free and democratic society.
To me, it does not look democratic

This is the preview of what the US will look like in 2-3 years....
For some reason, people in the us think that the government can go on for ever with 40% of revenue coming from borrowing. Wake up america, this is coming to us too...

@KenMacMillan It's pretty hard to have a nationwide strike if the majority of the people don't support the action. The fact is that the Greek economy has always been a bad debtor and should never have been put into the Euro in the first place. Just have a look at the historical forex data for the Drachma, it goes down throughout its modern history because Greece defaulted almost every 10 years, as did Italy, Spain and Portugal. They need to default and exit not become slaves in their homeland.

& they'll blame it on capitalism.

@Endostatic Demonstrate for what? I doubt very much that they represent the majority of Greeks. The government has to cut back because they hired too many employees and paid them too much with retirement plans that are too generous. The police are holding back a bunch of spoiled children who want to retire at 55 & spend the next 40 years traipsing around Europe on the tax payers dime. They're rioting because reality got in the way.

@KenMacMillan They are protesters not criminals. Here's a news flash for you, citizens of a democratic country have a legal right to assemble and demonstrate. The Greek police are the only ones breaking the law I suggest you go live in a country which enshrines fascism, like Kazakhstan, if you believe that the state should have arbitrary power to suppress the will of the people!

@Endostatic The police's job isn't to aid the criminals.

@nteiznt It's their own fault for thinking they can retire at 55 with their inflated paychecks & pensions.Their failure is socialism at its finest.
