This documentary, part of the U.S Navy Heritage Mini-Series, recalls the heroic damage control efforts of sailors throughout the Navy's history. It includes coverage of the kamikaze attack on USS Franklin (CV-13), the deadly fire on board USS Forrestal(CV-59), the damage to USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58) from a mine explosion, and the terrorist attack on USS Cole (DDG-67). The series was produced by Empire Media Group, in conjunction with the Naval History and Heritage Command and the Naval Historical Foundation.

  • USS Samuel B. Roberts: Is it the small size of the Hertz Horn that makes them very difficult (or maybe almost impossible) to detect? Could it be an advantage for a frigate, crossing an exposed zone, to have a sort of trailed gride around the ships (floating on water surface), to hold off approaching objects?

  • Salute to the bravery and courage of the seamen on the Franklin ! US get bad rap mostly because of our politicians and not our servicemen.

  • This makes me scared to be a DC D:

  • Captain James Lawrence is my ancestor. A hero!

  • Interesting is the declining importance of ships with the passage of time, There may well come a time when the navy comprises small boats and submarines in the navy. This video is beautifully made.
