Happy new year! We embark on a journey into Gen, specifically jit.gl.pix, which lets you write gl shaders in Max. We also turn my bedroom into pixel land.

  • Well hey there my good buddy Sam, how's it going? I was hoping you could do a delicious gen audio tutorial. I'm looking into buying Max 6 but I'm still not sure why I want gen. I've been reading around and I'm not coming up with the answers. So I figured the best place to go was to my good buddy and see if he can help out. So what do say Sam?

  • @MrCanning7 Hey man, we are totally on the same page. I've got one more jit.gen tutorial to get out and then it's on to gen~. I have the same question in mind: why gen~? We'll figure it out, don't you worry.

  • hahahh! Cool! But how do you know all that stuff?? What do you recommend for a total noob? I've been following the help tutorial for now..

  • @carlsaraiva For a total and complete max noob? Just don't rush yourself. Take your time, savor the learning experience. Explore all the tutorials. Look at all the patches in the examples folder. Watch videos of cool people doing cool stuff. Most of all try to build a few patches on your own, and even more importantly just try not to get frustrated. It takes time but the great thing about Max is you can learn it just by playing around and soaking it up.

  • @carlsaraiva And for good resources specific to gen, check out the vignettes section of the help menu as well as the examples folder. Also, since gen is to cutting-edge, the forums on cycling74 tend to be one of the better resources as well.

  • @dude837 Happy days!! Looking forward to it already. I know I want to buy gen but I need justification, goddamnit......

Thanks for the tutorials, man. I've been using Max for a few years and its been real nice to be able to see someone else's patching style and ideas. Its helped see some of the simpler things in a new light and make my patches more efficient as well as helping me delve into new territory. I'm sure I'll be in touch again with a request or two.

    Cheers,

    John
