Wow I could imagine the mother in some musical. Seriously her singing is not that bad, very musical-like, it reminds me of someone but I just can't place my finger on it. A bit like madam mimp in sword in the stone xD Fantastic.
"the same people who say they LOVE Little Edie would have described these women as fat, old, delusional "cat ladies" who can't keep a man or a house "
Under any other circumstances ( if these women were not the Bouviers) the same people who say they LOVE Little Edie would have been described these women as fat, old, delusional "cat ladies" who can't keep a man or a house clean.
I think people are being hypocritical and fetishizing a sad moment in these women's lives.
i just watched the movie grey gardens, and did they lose the wealth after the father left the family? did the mom and daughter suffer from a mental illness? what happened to the two sons? but now they are at peace ( with a big family who's also with them ).
@OldHollywood93 Also they weren't that wealthy. In their day women weren't encouraged to have jobs and careers, and they were dependent on a husband for support. Big Edie's husband (Little Edie's dad) ran out on the family years ago so she was dependent on her father and brothers for money. Her father disinherited her for being "eccentric" and also spent most of his money before he died so she wouldn't have inherited much anyway. Her other relatives didn't help much or at all either.

I wonder why people are obsessed with these particular women's stories.
Is it because they were related to American royalty " Jackie O"?
Is it because they were born in American upper society and died in squalor?
There is no question these women deserved compassion ( not pity or judgements) but we ALL deserve compassion from our fellow human beings.

Big Edie was still so pretty, even as an old lady. You can definitely see the resemblance to Jackie Kennedy in her bone structure.

I haven't heard a 'Soft Shoe' reference since Hapworth back in 1924.
