Panicked parents are rushing to Punes official swine flu testing center since reports of the death of a teenager from the H1N1 virus.
[Madhukar Mahadev, Grandparent]:
"After yesterday's incident, we thought we should go to Naidu hospital and get an entire check up. But we are facing many problems since they have only made one center available for (swine flu) checking. We have come here after so much traveling, and then we have to wait outside in line until they call us and conduct the check up."
Parents are taking no risks now and are checking their children with any symptoms of coughing, cold or fever.
[Ashwini Khandave, Parent]:
"One such case has occurred so even if there is a slight cold or fever symptom, then everyone is bringing their children here, because there is a risk involved."
Ria Sheik, the teenage swine flu victim, was a student at St. Anne's High School. The school is now shut and being fumigated and sanitized.
Teacher say they are strongly advising both students and parents to exercise caution.
[Linette Wilson, Teacher, St. Anne's High School]:
"For the past 15 to 20 days, we have been informing the parents and children that if there is even a slight cold and cough then they should go and get themselves checked. And if such a student has come to school then we have to sent him/her back and we continuously keep instructing the children to please go and get themselves checked."
The 14-year-old H1N1 virus victim had been admitted to a private hospital with symptoms of flu but was misdiagnosed with pneumonia.
