You've seen "Battle at Kruger." Now watch explosive lion action captured live on safari in Botswana. This time the buffalo weren't so lucky.

  • It is really great to see an excellent piece of film. You obviuously love your subject. Having made many trips to Africa this is my favourite location for this kind of action. The Jubert's knew what theywere doing when filming "relentless enemies" here. It was my inspiration for a much more humble effort "Okavango Swamp Cats" but we had to achieve in three days what they took months to capture. This is is pure classic Duba, great filing.

  • @gerrybatch Thank you for your comments, Gerry. Yes, you are right about the Jouberts picking Duba for a reason. You are almost guaranteed some thrills there. We shot this kill on our last morning, and the pride wasn't even trying to hunt in stealth. It was like watching a game of chess with the lions sometimes having the advantage, and the buffalo giving plenty back. As for your video "Okavango Swamp Cats" -- all I can say is "Bravo." You give the Joubert's a run for their money.

  • I love all the big cats! Can anyone discern why the big male lion was targeting that female only?? The other females were allowed to eat alongside the male! Is it a "hierarchy" status or something??

  • @Mike16921 I think the one that the male lion was targeting is called "Silver Eye" -- she lost an eye in a fight, so one eye is completely clouded over. According to our guide, she doesn't like anyone else near her when she is feeding, and she is a bit of an outcast. So the male was just putting her in her place. There is a superb documentary that aired recently on National Geographic called "The Last Lions" about this very pride at Duba Plains, and how they came to be buffalo hunters.

  • to be honest i dont know how you guys can drive in an open vehicle yea it doesnt seem like you guys are any threat from the lions but i would be scared out of my mind with those lions growling like that an donly being 30ft away or so D:

  • @thehtgrts Believe me, it IS unnerving. And it took me awhile to get used to the open vehicles. But the lions are accustomed to seeing these vehicles in their environment, and are not threatened by them -- as long as you do what your guides say. Now if you were foolish enough to stand up in the vehicle or climb out of it in the presence of a predator -- that would be a different story. So -- yes, wild animals can be unpredictable of course. But it's a controlled risk we choose to take.

  • @stiglaa For your information, It is tourism dollars that have played a monumental role in allowing these animals to live on game preserves relatively undisturbed, and protected from human encroachment and from the scourge of poaching. And it is tourism dollars that have convinced African governments to maintain the parks, creating jobs for Africans as guides and rangers devoted to conservation, and to saving these magnificent animals from extinction.

  • i don't care how save they think they are, but they look like a bunch of idiots driving around in a roofless Jeep

  • that's how it should be

  • 2:45 NOM NOM DIE BITCH! NOM NOM

  • All men should aspire to be like this male lion. Sadly it is not the case any more as we have to many metrosexuals and gays running the media and telling us its ok to be weak.

  • do you have gun or a tazer so u can defined ur self?

  • Such ferocious beasts! Imagine if somehow they evolved to our level. They would be worse than the Nazis.

  • @maauwieprrprr i thought so too but it seemse like lions dont even care about those cars. they always seem to do it with roofless and unsave cars...

  • Lions must have about the worst table manners in the animal kingdom. LOL

Funny how the tourist comments when taping scenes like this are always something like 'Oh my God, they got one...oh, the poor buffalo, oh no!' But, hey, that's what lions do. If lions don't do this, they die from starvation. It's not like they have a choice. They don't have the option of eating grass and leaves. They have a different digestive tract. To a lion no meat equals death by starvation, pure and simple.

  • I was just about to say how docile the male was being around the kill & then a second later he charged the female. lol.

  • 2:00 lioness chocking
