Dr. Lisa Bazzett, a Gynecologic Oncologist from Ochsner Hospital, discussed several issues dealing with women and the subject of cancer. Bazzett explained the difference between the medical procedure of a "radical hysterectomy" and what is called "uterine sparing" surgery. The uterine sparing surgery process is sometimes for younger women still in child bearing years and tries to save the uterus to allow them to possibly give birth. The doctor also explained how the "Davinci Robotic System" works. "It's called a robotic system but it's not actually the robot doing the surgery." she said. "the surgeon still does and perfoms the surgey."
The Davinci Robotic System is one of the newer laparoscopic surgery systems that uses the minimally invasive technique of a camera at the end of a thin, lighted tube.
