THE COMPUTER WAS ALREADY DEAD! IT WAS RECYCLED AFTERWARD!

Sorry to get that out of the way at the beginning, but this video was on my home page a few years ago, and a raging debate started over this video on a certain Macintosh "community" forum website.

I collect old computers, and I'm a gun owner. This computer was dead, and I was going to take it to a local electronics recycling center, but a friend who is definitely a "gun nut" thought it would be fun to shoot, first. We go shooting at a private outdoor range every few months, and have shot up old computer equipment before, but never a "compact Mac", so I figured it would be fun. (You can see one very often-used tower chassis being used as a stand.)

The computer in question is a Macintosh Classic II that had both a dead motherboard, and a fried CRT "analog board". I had tried repairing it multiple times before; and took out any reusable components (hard drive, memory, etc,) first. Because it wasn't 100% dead-as-a-doornail (if you gave it power, and turned it on, the screen would light up, but no signal would reach it, and you would hear the "chimes of death",) so we actually tried to use a barely-functional UPS to power it up; but then decided that if a bullet hit the battery in the UPS, it would be bad; and didn't.

This is (sort of obviously,) slowed down. The smaller more rapid shots are from my friend's Calico 9 mm pistol; the larger, less frequent shots are my (antique from my grandfather) shotgun.

After we were done, we packed up all the bits we could pick up, and brought them to the recycling center. ($10 mandatory fee for CRT recycling, $5 "suggested" fee for a computer, I left $40.) Didn't stick around to see the reaction when they opened the bag. :-p

edit: Got a few comments about how it's not really 'exploding', but rather that it is getting shot. So I'm changing the title. 'ya happy now? :-p

  • To the recent commenters who CONTINUE to talk about being able to sell it for a lot of money...

    1. Get a life.

    2. Read my other comments. It is a model, that in WORKING condition, sells for less than $10. And this one was broken.

    3. Yes, I *COULD* have repaired it. By spending more than it was worth. I have others, it wasn't worth it.

P.S. I do not approve comments with obscenities in them. I will approve 'negative' comments, just not ones with obscenities or that are solely personal attacks.

  • @ehurtley You may not have grasped that 'break my heart' refers to pain that makes me look like smashing a computer. Nothing so complex ._.
